I think that design is rather attractive - any particular reasons why they're harder to make or deal with? If I had a CNC router, I think I would possible remake some of the gears in my clock to resemble these - assuming they're functionally equivalent.
  • The spokes of a cog can be of any imaginable form as long as they are able to hold the cog outer rim without it deforming under load, so as far as design is concerned, anything goes.
